From 100% Orange Muscat with an aroma reminiscent of Orange Blossom
and Apricot, and a lingering refreshing aftertaste, Essensia is
used as a dessert accompaniment or a dessert in itself. The Orange
Muscat grape variety is little known. It was once grown in France
and there are some small plantings in Italy and Australia. The wine
is lightly fortified to about 15% alcohol and aged for 3 months in
French Oak. Its relatively high acidity makes it taste balanced,
even with its considerable sweetness, more like the taste of fresh
fruit than an old fashioned sticky sweet muscat.
In 1990, we decided to produce a new type of dessert wine, light,
delicate and very refreshing. We tasted Orange Muscat grape juice
as it was turning into wine. When the juice was just on the verge -
halfway between wine and grape juice, a small test batch was
bottled. The wine tasted wonderful, but the alcohol was only 4%
(most wines are at least 12%). The wine was bottled using sterile
filtration to prevent refermentation and the new creation named
Electra after the electric like texture one notices on the tip of
the tongue. This is a picnic wine, light delicate and refreshing, a
breath of springtime, a bouquet of flowers with the taste of peach
and melon. Electra goes well with spicy picnic foods, salads,
pastas, and dessert.
Red Electra Moscato
Red Electra, first released in 1993, is garnet red, tastes of
succulent cherry, berry, and peach, and has a slight sparkle. It’s
a good wine for angels to drink when they party because with only
5.5% alcohol, they can party longer. Try it with all kinds of
desserts and cheeses including chocolate bon-bons, truffles, spiced
holiday cookies, vanilla, and fruit. We made Red Electra by
combining Orange and Black Muscat grapes, and fermenting them very
slowly at a low temperature so they would keep their delicious
flavors. That’s why Red Electra tastes like a bowl full of
cherries. Red Electra makes delectable sangria and sorbet. To make
sangria add chilled Red Electra to seasonal fruit and sparkling
water. Lots of people wonder why we made Red Electra. The answer
is: people told us that they liked Electra very much but they
thought it would be better if it were red.
